What is Social Media?

Social Media is a phrase that almost all people use, but what is its meaning? It could be hard to answer that question. The best way to define social media is to break it down. ''Media'' is an instrument on communication, like a radio, a newspaper or television, so social media would be a social instrument of communication. Think about regular media as a ''one way'' street where you can read a newspaper or listen to a report on television, but you have very limited ability to give your thoughts. Social media, on the other hand, is a ''two way'' street that gives you the ability to communicate too. Social Networking has become very popular during the past few years, but it can still being very difficult to understand for some people. The easiest way to understand social networking is to think of it like a high school.  You have friends in school, and you know few people even if they are not close friends, but it is like you do not know everyone. If you ever moved to a new school, you started with no friends. After attending classes, you started meeting people, and as you meet them, you begin associating with those that have similar interests. Start with social networking is the same as starting at a new school. First, you do not have any friends. But as you join groups, you begin to meet people, and you build a friends list of those with similar interests.

To be involved in social networking you need profiles in some social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Path, and you have to add something particular of yourself on them. That is going to identify you there.
